SANDAG Bus Rapid Transit Super Loop Analysis and Traffic Engineering, San Diego, California
The Super Loop is planned as a local circulator bus rapid transit route with transit priority features (both physical and signal). The route is located in the University City area of San Diego. KOA led the traffic analysis task, which analyzed the traffic impacts of this proposed San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) project, including impacts to street segments and key intersections resulting from conversion of travel lanes to transit lanes, modifications to streets and signal priority measures. The analysis identified existing and future volume / capacity ratios and levels of service. KOA is assisting with alignment and design modifications in recommending route and station / stop locations and developing a priority treatment plan for these locations and the traffic signal transit priority system. The analysis is a key component of the environmental document being prepared. KOA’s scope has been expanded to include traffic engineering services for the project’s design phase, which is currently underway. The design includes over 25 new and modified traffic signal designs. |
