Pedestrian Studies & Design
Communities strive to create livable and walkable neighborhoods through the use of improved pedestrian facilities. For more than 20 years KOA has been a leader in providing communities with the design and analysis of pedestrian and bicycle facilities. We provide safety analysis of pedestrian facilities, with special emphasis upon marked uncontrolled crosswalks.
KOA helped to pioneer the implementation and testing of the use of in-roadway flashing light systems to improve conditions at marked crosswalks. Our work in this field has been published, presented at conferences and symposiums, and used by communities to assist in their own pedestrian planning.

Safe Routes To School
KOA works with schools, cities, and neighborhoods to identify safe walking and bicycling routes to local schools, and makes recommendations for pedestrian facility improvements along those routes.
Bikeway Studies & Design
Creating bicycle-friendly communities requires comprehensive planning and innovative design. KOA brings together communities, bicyclists and regional planners to create, or implement, bikeways for commuting and recreation as a viable alternative travel mode.
Parking / Circulation Studies & Design
KOA provides analysis of traffic circulation and parking demand as part of the planning and environmental review process. We provide parking lot analysis and design, and are specialized in parking demand and management studies for large developments and downtown areas.
