LA Metro BRT Orange Line - 34 Traffic Signals Design, North Hollywood to Canoga Park, Los Angeles County, California
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) built a Metro Bus Rapid Transit route, consisting of an exclusive bus roadway running east-west through the San Fernando Valley within the City of Los Angeles. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operates over a 13-mile stretch in semi-exclusive lanes on Metro right-of-way and one mile of mixed flow operation between the North Hollywood Metro Rail Station and the Warner Center Transit Hub. The BRT project includes 13 stations, a bike path, and a pedestrian path along the route. The project was constructed under a design-build contract using state and local funds. To handle conditions during construction, KOA prepared worksite traffic control plans, traffic circulation and traffic management plans, temporary traffic signal plans, and temporary lighting plans. The firm designed restoration traffic signal, signal interconnect, signing & striping, and street lighting plans. The traffic signal design included design of a bus preemption system and / or bus priority system. This project was awarded the California Transportation Foundation (CTF) TRANNY Awards “2006 Project of the Year”
