Alameda Corridor East Grade Separation and Safety Improvement Traffic Study and Concept Plans, Los Angeles County, California
The Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority (ACE) commenced a new study with KOA Corporation to evaluate 14 highway-railroad grade crossings along the corridor to determine appropriate actions and measures to improve safety and mitigate vehicular traffic delays. Of the 14 locations, several at-grade crossings were included in previous analysis more than 10 years ago, while the others are new locations to be analyzed. Essentially, ACE is interested in evaluating these at-grade crossings, develop a project priority list, and determine the appropriate type of safety improvements for each crossing. ACE has identified a preliminary list of locations where the grade crossing elimination concept plans are required, including partial and full depression and trenching of the UPRR tracks within the City of Montebello, and grade separation of six other crossings. These plans, along with other locations under study, will be reviewed and prioritized throughout the process of this new study. Other crossing locations, where crossing elimination may not be warranted, will be evaluated to recommend effective improvements to maximize the safety conditions.

The goal of this project is to provide the Authority with a comprehensive capital improvement program that consists of cost effective construction and project cost estimates in concert with their implementation schedule. The KOA Team will also identify the various funding sources for the select improvements.
